I'm Not Your Fairy Godfather! Psychic, Not Puppeteer — Where My Responsibility Ends and Yours Begins.

Every now and then, someone will say to me, "You told me this would happen... and it didn't."

Years ago, that sentence would have landed like a punch to the stomach. The old me would immediately go into people-pleasing mode. I'd feel guilty. Responsible. I'd replay the entire reading in my head, wondering where I'd failed. I'd carry it around with me for days.

And it wasn't just with clients. A close friend challenged me recently over my interpretation of a tarot card.

"That's not what it means!" he declared rather emphatically. "You can look it up online and it says..." followed by a textbook explanation he'd found on the internet.

Because he was a close friend, my guard was down and I engaged.

Palm slap to the forehead.

I wish I'd simply smiled and said, "You're absolutely right... what would I know?"

I've only been reading them for nearly forty years... more than half of that time professionally.

Here's the thing...

Tarot isn't about memorising keywords. It's a language, an intuition, a symbolism and context. The very same card can mean something entirely different depending on the person sitting in front of me, the surrounding cards, the energy in the room, and what Spirit is drawing my attention towards. That's why I don't read from a script, and that's also why I'm no longer interested in defending my interpretation to someone who believes an internet search knows more than decades of lived experience.

That doesn't make me arrogant. It means I've finally stopped feeling the need to justify myself. These days? My response is often much simpler…

"Well... what did you do?"

You see, as a psychic reader, I can only share what I'm shown in that moment. That's my role, and I do it with authenticity, integrity, and the deepest respect for the person sitting in front of me. But I'm not your fairy godfather. I don't wave a magic wand and make your life happen. I don't make your choices. I don't walk your path. And I certainly don't live your life for you. One thing I've become very comfortable saying is this:

I'm happy to admit when I get it wrong.

Spirit communicates perfectly, but my interpretation is sometimes imperfect, because I'm human. Sometimes I can misunderstand a symbol. Sometimes timing isn't what I thought it was. Sometimes I join dots that weren't meant to be connected. When that happens, I own it. No excuses. No ego. That's part of working honestly.

But here's what I won't own anymore...

Your choices.

Your actions.

Or the consequences that follow.

A reading is guidance. It's information. It's perspective. What you choose to do with that information is entirely yours. And that's called free will.

I've lost count of the number of times Spirit has shown someone a beautiful opportunity... only for fear, doubt, procrastination or old patterns to stop them from walking through the door. That's not Spirit getting it wrong, and it's certainly not me. It's simply just life.

Now before anyone gets their knickers in a knot, let me say this...

The overwhelming majority of my clients are open-hearted, kind, humble people. They come with curiosity rather than expectation. They're willing to reflect, to grow, and to take responsibility for their own lives.

I adore working with those people, so this isn't me waging war on clients. Far from it. This is simply about boundaries. Healthy ones. Boundaries that I've learnt over many decades of doing this work.

Every so often an adverse client appears, and these days I don't see it as a problem. I see it as a gentle nudge, and a reminder to keep those boundaries firmly in place. Because here's something else I've learnt...

Just because you paid for a reading doesn't mean you're entitled to own me.

My gifts are free. My time is not.

The energetic investment it takes to do this work is enormous. When I'm sitting with someone, I don't hold judgement. None. My empathy meter skyrockets off the Richter scale. I genuinely care. I sit in their world with them for that hour, hoping to bring clarity where there's confusion and light where things feel dark.

That's why my motto has always been:

Guidance with Kindness.

And I think it's fair to expect that kindness to be mirrored back. People sometimes come to a reading hoping I'll tell them exactly what they want to hear. Sometimes I do, and sometimes I don't. My responsibility isn't to make you comfortable. It's to tell you what I genuinely believe you need to know.

After that... use your own discernment. Accept what resonates and throw out what doesn't. Question it, sit with it, and live with it, because that’s the healthy and considered thing to do. I'm here to empower you, not rescue you. To shine some light on your path, not carry you down it.

Don't hand over responsibility for your life.

Don't blame someone else for your choices.

Don't expect another human being to live your journey for you.

The best psychic reading in the world still requires one thing from the person receiving it... Participation.

Psychics, clairvoyants and mediums don't deserve reverence. We're not gurus, and we’re certainly not infallible (at least, not the authentic ones… but that’s an entirely different blog!)

But I do believe we deserve respect. Respect for having the courage to sit with complete strangers, to vulnerably open our energy fields, and to willingly step into the chaos, uncertainty and, sometimes, heartbreak of another person's inner world. That takes trust. It takes faith, and it takes an enormous amount of energy.

So if you leave a reading and something doesn't resonate...

Throw it out.

Question it.

Ignore it.

Nothing is set in stone.

You have always had — and always will have — free will.

And perhaps, the next time you sit with a psychic, clairvoyant or medium, remember that we're not there to fix your life. We're just there to help you see it a little more clearly.
